Once whispers of a new addition onto the University of Nebraska’s iconic football stadium reached Taylor Gilbreath of Midwest Storage Solutions in Omaha, he didn’t sit back and wait for the play to develop. He blitzed.
Turns out, the equipment manager was well aware of Spacesaver and our solutions for athletic equipment storage on mobile shelving systems. He had even seen one in action at the University of Oklahoma. So before the competition knew what hit them, Taylor had already made the play—a move Husker fans were used to out of their former All-American and current NFL standout Ndamukong Suh.
After going through every last pad, chin strap, cleat and every other piece of equipment, including home, away and practice jerseys and pants, along with every other odd and end to be stored, Taylor drew up the final plans and teamed up with the architects and contractor. They were tripling the storage space from before, and the equipment manager was giddy.
Two powered mobile shelving systems were installed, featuring 4-Post Shelving with a variety of storage options, from cubbies and heavy-duty pullout drawers to garment racks to custom-made shoulder pad racks. Everything had a place, with room to expand.
The first system was installed in the main equipment room and was designed for bulk equipment storage—as in 2,500 pairs of shoes, team apparel, and so on. The second system was custom-designed to accommodate individual player jersey storage, helmet storage and so on. To achieve this, smaller cubbies were used in order to organize pieces of equipment specific to each player together. Same for the coaching staff as well.
